GOD HELPS THE HUMBLE
SEPTEMBER
"Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time." (1 Peter 5:6)
When a verse in the Bible starts with a conjunctive adverb, "therefore," it calls for a second look. It means something has happened before the verse. So, paying attention to the previous verses in this case will be a wise choice. In the preceding verses, Apostle Peter admonished both the young and old to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God.
If I may remind you, we are in the season of Help. To look unto Him and receive His help, we must first identify and admit our vulnerability. No matter your age, status, height, gender, race, colour, experience, you surely need help. And the only help that is sure, never to fail, is the help from above. This does not make us worthless. Admitting our vulnerability before God only expresses that we cannot do it by ourselves. Remember Jesus said, without Him we can do nothing. Friends, we lose nothing by submitting to God; we rather gain everything. Think about it!
James 4:6 states: "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble." Resist means to oppose. Obviously, God is not happy with the proud but helps the humble. When next you feel opposed to achieve a good thing, examine yourself diligently, and be sure that it is not God Himself who is blocking your way due to your pride! But it is not so with the humble; God helps them.
The latter part of our main verse says "that He may exalt you …." It means our elevation depends on our total submission to God. Note also the adverbial phrase, "in due time." The allusion is everyone has their own due time; the appointed season according to God’s perfect calendar. In His judgment, He steps in at the right time to exalt. May you not escape His move at this season.
Beloved, you are not called to a competition; neither are you to run anybody's race. God has not forgotten you. He sees your pains, tears and humility. The Present Help in trouble is at work at this season. As you humble yourself under His mighty hand, I declare that your time of help is NOW in Jesus' Name. AMEN!
Experiencing the TRUE GOD.
