I AM NOT WORTHY!

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. (Gen 32:10 KJV)

Jacob lived with Laban his uncle for a total of twenty years. Although, a swindler himself, he met a greater one in Laban. If not for divine intervention, Jacob was going to leave Haran empty-handed. Having just escaped the schemes and wrath of his uncle by God’s design, Jacob was prepared for a greater challenge – facing the unpredictable reaction of his brother Esau, who he swindled. So, he needed to pray. As he opened his mouth to pray, Jacob expressed that, “I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies.”

Brethren, that statement was profound! It was an expression of

ü Conscious dependence on God

ü Sincere and grateful recollection of the past

ü Acknowledgment of God being the source of ALL good things, and so on.

What an amiable disposition!

Last Thursday, on our way to meet those who went to the beach, the Scripture above flashed on my mind. Instantly, I knew God has a message for us. As I meditated, I realized that all of us were like Jacob at some point, with just a staff, or even nothing to boast of. But today, it’s a different story. We have families, friends, houses, cars, peace of mind, joy of the LORD, and other good things. Those who are yet to have some of these are closer to having them than ever.

Beloved, as Jacob reckoned, I’d like to remind you that it’s not for your smartness; not for your education or experience; not for your prayer and fasting; not for your connections; not for your education; not for your ability to wrestle with an angel like Jacob. Rather, it is by His mercies that you don’t deserve.

Listen, the GOD who catapulted Jacob from just a travelling staff to two bands of wives, children, herds of oxen and asses, flocks, male and female servants, and other riches, is your God. I see Him expand your coast. I see your labour of yesteryears being greatly rewarded. No matter the level of your greatness now, I see God take you further beyond your imagination. Howbeit, let something be prime in your heart, ‘But for His undeserved mercy, I AM NOT WORTHY!’ Shalom!

Experiencing the TRUE GOD.
