GREAT JOY IS HERE!

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. (Luk 2:10 KJV)

It has always been a hard-to-describe joy, after a long anticipation, to welcome the first child into a family. The joy of Mary and Joseph, therefore, cannot be overemphasized. But apart from the joy His birth brought to the immediate family, several prophets of God already predicted His birth.

Notably, about 2,800 years ago, the Prophet Isaiah predicted, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isa 9:6 KJV

Around the time of this prophecy, the southern kingdom under Ahaz was about to enter a time of increasing distress and darkness. The northern kingdom was about to be attacked by Assyria. And the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali in the far north Galilean region were about to be taken into captivity. So, promising a Messiah to bring light and joy might not be timelier.

The anticipated messiah pictured was Hezekiah, a child born in Ahaz’s day. Ahaz his father was a descendant of David. So, it was right to see him as symbolic of the dynasty of David. When Hezekiah died about 687 BC after reigning for 29 years, the people would conclude that the prophecy was false.

I suppose people were right to be disappointed. Why? The Messiah God promised is the true Immanuel, ‘God with us’; not with just one tribe or a race, but with all the peoples of the Earth, in all continents and from generation to generations!

Ultimately, the fulfilment was met by Jesus, the Eternal GOD who came to dwell among humankind. He is the mighty Messiah, the great descendant of David, who brings everlasting peace and Great Joy. The One who rules with justice for ever. It took the angel of GOD to announce His birth.

“I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."

Beloved, the wait is over! GREAT JOY IS HERE! I pray that great joy to fill your life and home and never to depart in Jesus Name. AMEN!
